Anti-Doping Agency and basketball leagues meet to focus on match-fixing

The Director of the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency Rūta Banytė, Advisor Kornelija Tiesnesytė, and the Manager for Coordination of Manipulation of Sport Competitions Aleksandras Kovalenka met with the Executive Director of the National Basketball League (NKL) Justinas Jasiukaitis and the Director of the Regional Basketball League (RKL) Remigijus Kuodis.
The meeting focused on the prevention of match-fixing in national basketball.
"In the NKL alone, there have been some very unpleasant situations in the last few years related to possible match fixing. Some of them resulted in serious penalties for the offending players. In a meeting with the league leaders, we discussed what we can do together to prevent such cases from happening again. We offered all the necessary methodological, expert, informational and training assistance to solve the manipulation problems", - said the Head of the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency after the meeting.
"Cooperation with the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency is a very important step to ensure fair and transparent play in our league. We want all players, coaches and clubs to understand that match-fixing has no place in basketball. Together we will strive to educate the community about the importance of prevention," said Jasiukaitis.
The meeting also agreed to sign an agreement between the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency and the NCL on cooperation in the areas of doping prevention and control and prevention of manipulation of sport competitions.
The Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency is the national coordinator of the fight against match-fixing.
