2012-07-0923 March 2012 Aurora Andruska, Head of the Australian Anti-Doping Sports Authority, and Trevor Burgess, Deputy Director, visited the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency.
The Director of the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency, Ieva Lukošiūtė-Stanikūnienė, and the Head of the Australian Anti-Doping Authority for Sport, Aurora Andruska, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in information exchange and an agreement on doping control.
The purpose of the Memorandum is cooperation between the two institutions. The inter-institutional exchange of information related to doping is essential for an effective and expeditious fight against doping in sport. The Memorandum is important for the implementation of the World Anti-Doping Code and for the detection of all anti-doping rule violations. The information obtained will help in the selection of athletes for testing as well as in the detection of anti-doping rule violations that are not related to doping.
The essence of the doping control agreement is to carry out doping controls on athletes on national anti-doping organisation lists, not only in their country of nationality, but also when they are present in other countries. This Agreement ensures the effective implementation of the doping control programme as required by the provisions of the World Anti-Doping Code.
