Head of the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency presents Lithuania's best practice at international conference
2026-01-29The LITHUANIAN ANTIDOPING AGENCY invites athletes, coaches and other employees of sports organisations and competition organisers to take part in a short survey to assess the perception of manipulation of sports competitions in Lithuania and to compare data from different countries.
In addition to Lithuania, the survey is being conducted in Spain, Canada, Poland, Finland, Iceland and Slovakia.
The survey was prepared by a working group of the Copenhagen Group of the Council of Europe's Macaolino Convention, whose aim is to identify current educational strategies on match-fixing, to assess how effectively these educational programmes are working, to assess whether sports competitors are aware of match-fixing, and to understand whether individuals are able to spot match-fixing in sport if necessary?
Why are your answers important?
Your insights will help us better understand:
- How are the threats of match-fixing understood and can they be identified?
- Is the knowledge sufficient to distinguish suspicious behaviour that may be linked to match-fixing?
- Is education about match-fixing enough?
- If not, what kind of education should there be about match-fixing?
When you open the survey link, you can choose to take the survey in Lithuanian (language selection in the top right corner).
Key facts
Match-fixing (also known as match-fixing) occurs when individuals deliberately alter the outcome or course of a sporting event to gain an unfair advantage. This practice undermines fair play in sport and is a growing concern worldwide.
As of 2019, many countries have signed and ratified the Macaulay Convention, an international legal instrument to combat the manipulation of sport competitions. The Convention defines manipulation as "a deliberate agreement, act or omission intended to change the result or course of a sporting competition in an improper manner, with the aim of giving oneself or others an undeserved advantage".
Your participation will directly contribute to efforts to strengthen fair sport and inform future educational initiatives.
Thank you for your time and valuable input.
