The international standard for the authorisation of therapeutic use was first established in 2004 and entered into force on 1 January 2005. It has been updated six times since then, with the latest edition in January 2019. The revised version was approved by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Executive Committee at the World Conference on Doping in Sport in Katowice on 7 November 2019. They have also been endorsed by UNESCO. The Standard will enter into force on 1 January 2021.
