Agency representatives at LFF seminar on prevention of manipulation
2025-07-22The Ethics, Disciplinary and Appeals Commission (EDAC) of the Lithuanian Basketball Association (LBA) yesterday announced its decision on the possible participation of two national basketball players in the agreed matches.
Aurimas Urbonas, who played in the NKL, was disqualified for one year. The case of Tomas Lekūnas was sent back for retrial.
Rūta Banytė, the head of the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency, which coordinates the fight against match-fixing in the country, welcomes the decision of the association Lietuvos krepšinis.
"I am pleased that various sports organisations, this time the Lithuanian Basketball Association, are becoming more active in the fight against match-fixing. I think stories like this show our athletes, sports clubs, federations and the sports community that the fight against manipulation in sport is not just a fight against windmills. This ultimately contributes to a fairer and cleaner sport in our country", says Banytė.
Last year, the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency received 10 reports of suspicious sports meetings in Lithuania. 3 pre-trial investigations are being carried out on the basis of these reports, in which the Lithuanian Anti-Doping Agency provides practical, methodological, expert, coordination and other assistance. In connection with the reports received, the Agency 13 times addressed the relevant Lithuanian and European sports federations, the police, the Prosecutor General's Office, and supervisory authorities.
